A couple of things to put your mind at ease as you start to come back into the classroom setting:
LIFEGUARD COURSES:
Cleaning protocols have been increased
Equipment will be individualized as much as possible (mannequins, AED trainers, etc.)
Due to the nature of the Lifeguarding courses, there will be minimal contact required with other participants.
For Lifeguard/Lifesaving procedures (Spinals, Unresponsive, etc) we will be using submersible mannequins where possible
For physical standards required to be done on another person we will be teaching protocols to minimize risk - We will be switching to mannequins as soon as we are on the pool deck
All instructors are trained in updated COVID protocols
FIRST AID COURSES:
You will be set up with your own personal learning station (2m distance from the other stations)
Cleaning protocols have been increased
Equipment will not be shared amongst participants
Any skills involving partner work will be minimized, but when that is not possible, masks and gloves will be required to be worn.

FIRST AID AND LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION
Lifeguard and Instructor Recertification
Working lifeguards and swim instructors are required to keep their awards current.
Lapsed awards could result in lost working hours, so make sure you recertify before
the expiry date. The NL Pool and Waterpark Options, WSI and LSI must be renewed
every two years.
First Aid Recertification
All of LIT’s first aid courses expire three years after the completion date. Some
professionals, such as lifeguards, must re-certify sooner. Please check with your
organization to confirm certificate recertification requirements.
Candidates who complete the National Lifeguard recertification course successfully will be re-certified in their NL Pool Option certification for an additional 2 years. Candidates will be provided with updated information from the Lifesaving Society and will have an opportunity practice their skills prior to being tested on both physical standards and situations.

NL Waterpark Option Recert

Swim Instructors Recert

The Swim for Life Instructor Recert renews a candidate’s Swim for Life Instructor award for 24 months. Candidates must successfully pass the course and complete a Swim for Life® skills assessment.

If you completed your LSI prior to 2021, the Bronze Medals Update 2021 Online course must be completed prior to coming to the recertification (supplies from LSS must also be received and used to complete the online - sent by LSS upon registration in the online course): https://lifesavingsocietybcyk.thinkific.com/courses/2021-bronze-medals-update Completion of this course will be indicated on your Find-A-Member.
